SAN JOSE, CA and SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwire - October 6, 2009) - NetApp (
NASDAQ:
NTAP) and
the Silicon Valley Leadership Group today announced that they will host the
2009 Data Center Energy Efficiency Summit, an all-day symposium dedicated
to sustainable data center design, energy efficient engineering, and
operational practices for green computing. The summit will be held on
October 15, 2009 at NetApp headquarters in Sunnyvale, Calif. NetApp CEO and
President Tom Georgens will kick off the proceedings with a keynote address
titled "A New Era in IT."
Data centers in the United States used approximately 61 billion kWh of
electricity in 2006, doubling the amount used in 2000. That's enough
electricity to power 5.8 million households, according to a recent EPA
report. The summit will focus on best practices and real-world technology
implementations to reduce data center electricity consumption and costs.
The summit will feature the following highlights:
- Twelve case studies and demonstrations by data center operators from
major silicon valley companies
- A CIO roundtable lunch featuring, among others, Michael Kirwan, CIO of
Yahoo!, and Rosario Alvarez, CIO of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
- A panel on data center strategies for a carbon-constrained future
- Updates on DOE data center programs and funding
- Chill Off 2 (CO2), an expansion of the first Chill Off, which was
showcased at the 2008 Energy Summit, will include findings and
perspectives from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
Major sponsors of the 2009 Data Center Energy Efficiency Summit include
Pacific Gas & Electric Company, the California Energy Commission, Lawrence
Berkeley National Laboratory, NetApp, and the University of California
Institute for Energy and Environment.
