Tom Cook, Permabit's Chief Executive Officer and President, will speak at
the upcoming Gartner Symposium ITxpo on Permabit's status as a Gartner Cool
Vendor. Permabit was named one of Gartner's Cool Vendors in March 2009. The
report, "Cool Vendors in Archiving 2009" was written by Carolyn DiCenzo,
Kenneth Chin and Adam W. Couture. The report stated that the archiving
market continues to expand as cool vendors enter with new storage options
and services that make archiving more cost-effective and ease the migration
of older data. The "Cool Vendors" list includes IT organizations, such as
Permabit, who are best-positioned to offer stand-alone data reduction
features that assist other organizations to quickly build potentially new
and innovative solutions.
Gartner defines a cool vendor as a company that offers technologies or
solutions that are: Innovative, enable users to do things they couldn't do
before; Impactful, have, or will have, business impact (not just technology
for the sake of technology); Intriguing, have caught Gartner's interest or
curiosity in approximately the past six months.
In a recent Gartner Report published in August 2009(1), the firm identified
deduplication as a feature that is transformational. They recommend that
storage vendors must move quickly to expand and solidify their
deduplication plans, which could likely lead to OEM and merger and
acquisition activity. Gartner believes Permabit is one of the vendors
best-positioned to offer stand-alone data reduction features that other
vendors could quickly build into existing or new solutions.
