The Maintenance Cost Workshop (MCW), organised annually by the aircraft manufacturer Embraer, has awarded a prize for the best proposal to reduce aircraft maintenance costs. Finnair Flight Mechanic Lauri Levón was the winner of the award. This year the conference was held on October 25-30 in São Paulo, Brazil. "My proposal related the floor structure of the cargo hold. A small change means significant savings in material costs and less working time," says Levón. The purpose of the competition is to disseminate good experiences and results and to find new ideas to minimise maintenance costs and the time spent on maintenance. The proposals were assessed on the basis of their productivity and applicability.
