Wiresoft Calls Clientless SSL VPNs a Significant Threat to Network Security for Small-to-Medium-Sized Businesses
CINCINNATI, OH--(Marketwire - December 9, 2009) - Wiresoft today called on the network
security industry to ensure the highest levels of protection for VPN
connections, in light of US-CERT's disclosure of significant risks
associated with clientless SSL VPNs provided by major equipment
manufacturers and solutions providers.
The following remarks are attributable to Tom Schram, President and CEO of
Wiresoft:
"The clientless SSL VPN problem uncovered by US-CERT poses a grave threat
to the nation's small-to-medium-sized businesses, many of which
use clientless VPN implementations.
"Many SMBs today have remote workers who rely on VPN connections. If those
connections are not absolutely secure, the SMB can easily fall victim to
hackers who will steal confidential data, install malware or turn SMBs'
systems into spam servers.
"It is appalling that some of the nation's largest security hardware
manufacturers have known of this problem for several years, yet told their
customers to rely on work-around solutions.
"Only a client-based SSL VPN, like that ensured by Wiresoft's Firegate, can
provide absolute security."
