Costco Wholesale Corporation Reports December Sales Results


ISSAQUAH, WA--(Marketwire - January 7, 2010) - Costco Wholesale Corporation ("Costco") (NASDAQ: COST) today reported net sales of $8.26 billion for the month of December, the five weeks ended January 3, 2010, an increase of 11 percent from $7.41 billion in the same five-week period last year.

For the eighteen weeks ended January 3, 2010, the Company reported net sales of $26.83 billion, an increase of 8 percent from $24.93 billion during the similar period last year.

Comparable sales for the periods ended January 3, 2010, were as follows:

Inflation in gasoline prices and strengthening foreign currencies had a positive impact on December's comparable sales. Comparable sales excluding these effects were as follows:
