GenVec Inc. (GNVC) is engaged in the development of novel therapeutic drugs and vaccines. The Company's lead drug candidate, TNFerade(TM), is presently in phase III clinical study for the treatment of advanced pancreatic cancer. The Company's proprietary technology is under development for other diseases such as hearing loss, HIV, malaria, foot-and-mouth disease, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and HSV-2.

The Company will initially receive a $5.0 million upfront payment from Novartis. A Swiss pharmaceutical company has also acquired $2.0 million worth of the Company's common stock, according to a news release issued by the Company. Details of the agreement include periodic milestone payments, which may reach $213.6 million through drug's clinical trials and marketing efforts.”
