Wolf Greenfield Has Most Massachusetts Patent Lawyers: Boston Business Journal

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwire - February 2, 2010) - Wolf, Greenfield & Sacks, P.C., the Boston intellectual property (IP) law firm, has the most patent lawyers in Massachusetts -- 55 -- of any law firm in the state, according to the newly published Book of Lists 2010 by the Boston Business Journal.

While some lawyers may call themselves IP lawyers, only those who have passed the patent bar and are registered to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office can call themselves patent lawyers.

"It is an important distinction and one which demonstrates the depth and breadth of our IP knowledge and experience," said Timothy J. Oyer, president and managing partner.

Wolf Greenfield filed 2,320 patent applications in 2009. They ranged from complex innovations in biotech, computers, and chemicals to more straightforward consumer products.

Wolf Greenfield has a total of 59 lawyers plus 21 patent agents and technology specialists, for a total of 80 legal professionals. Whereas patent lawyers must have at least a bachelor's degree in science or engineering, two-thirds of Wolf Greenfield's legal professionals have a master's degree or a doctorate in their field.

Wolf Greenfield, the largest law firm in New England devoted exclusively to intellectual property law, serves companies that make everything from pharmaceuticals to software to electronics to snowboards, as well as representing academic research centers. The firm counsels clients in the areas of patents, trademarks, copyrights, designs, trade secrets, and related licensing and litigation. Web: www.wolfgreenfield.com.
