King & Spalding Expands Its Professional Responsibility and Securities Litigation Practices With the Addition of Three Partners

WASHINGTON, DC and NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - February 8, 2010) - King & Spalding, a leading international law firm, announced today that trial lawyers Diana L. Weiss, James J. Capra, Jr., and James P. Cusick are joining the firm's litigation practice as partners. With strong backgrounds in accountant liability, financial institution and securities litigation, the three will continue to focus their practices on these areas at King & Spalding, including representation of Big Four accounting firms and financial services companies. Weiss will be resident in the firm's Washington, D.C., office and Capra and Cusick in its New York office.

"Diana, Jim and Jim are talented, experienced trial lawyers who have built their careers by representing accounting firms and financial institutions in their most challenging matters," said L. Joseph Loveland, a senior partner in King & Spalding's business litigation practice and head of the firm's professional liability litigation initiative. "Their arrival adds even more depth and strength to our accountant liability and securities litigation practices, areas of strategic focus at the firm for a number of years."

The trio joins a growing cross-office team of seasoned King & Spalding litigators with extensive trial, arbitration and regulatory experience in professional services liability and securities litigation matters. All three join King & Spalding from Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, where they were partners.

Weiss has focused her practice on financial, accounting and securities-related litigation and regulatory proceedings. She has represented accountants, financial services companies and issuers in state and federal courts throughout the country and in enforcement proceedings before the Securities and Exchange Commission, Public Company Accounting Oversight Board and other agencies, as well as in civil and criminal investigations. She also conducts internal investigations relating to securities, commodities and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act issues. She received a J.D. degree from Cornell Law School and a B.A. degree from The Ohio State University.

Capra has focused throughout his career on litigation of accountant liability, antitrust and other general commercial matters. He handles cases in courts across the country and represents clients in investigations by the SEC and other enforcement agencies including the Department of Justice, Public Company Accounting Oversight Board and the New York attorney general's office. He received a J.D. degree from Duke Law School and a B.A. degree from Yale University.

Cusick, the former global co-head of litigation for Morgan Stanley, represents accounting firms, financial institutions and other businesses in trial and appellate matters. He earned a J.D. degree from Harvard Law School and a B.S. degree from Case Western Reserve University.

The arrival of Weiss, Capra and Cusick, along with the recent addition of a number of other accomplished litigators, has bolstered the firm's capabilities in professional liability and securities litigation. Contributing to King & Spalding's growing reputation in the field of professional liability and securities litigation are recent lateral hires Timothy T. Scott and Geoffrey M. Ezgar, in the firm's Silicon Valley, Calif., office, John A. Chandler and Elizabeth V. Tanis in the Atlanta, Ga., office and Geoffrey R. Unger in the Austin, Texas, office. In addition, Paul D. Clement, the former Solicitor General of the United States and King & Spalding's national appellate practice leader, has been involved in several appeals on behalf of Big Four accounting firms.
