Enterasys Further Simplifies Network Management With Newest HiPath Wireless Enhancements

New Version of WLAN Software Ensures Efficient Use of WAN Bandwidth and Delivers Unmatched Wired/Wireless Integration

ANDOVER, MA--(Marketwire - February 8, 2010) -  Enterasys, the network infrastructure and security division of Siemens Enterprise Communications Group, today announced enhancements to its award-winning HiPath® Wireless portfolio. The HiPath Wireless Version 7 enhancements uniquely simplify wireless connectivity by reducing IT administrative workload and operational costs by automating connectivity tasks, streamlining network management procedures, consolidating IT security functions and boosting overall 802.11n performance.

"We are excited by the latest features offered by Enterasys with this release," said Phil Komarny, CIO of Seton Hill University. "HiPath's Centralized Policy Manager, when combined with guest access, enables us to keep up with growing demand for wireless access from both students and faculty. And, the educational experience is improved for all as wireless services and mobile applications are available across the campus. Streamlining our IT operations with Enterasys' unified wired/wireless management has the added value of reducing costs and better protecting our network."

With the release of HiPath Version 7, IT administrators can now:

  • Create global, role-based priority and access policies that are universally applied -- across the entire network infrastructure -- as well as enforced directly at the point of network entry.
  • Dynamically assign traffic forwarding rules for users and groups, limit data flows and control admission on a per user and per SSID basis. This maximizes network performance and the user experience by automatically ensuring appropriate bandwidth, traffic priority and quality of service by user and application.
  • Easily provide remote users, including guests, with direct access to local resources such as Internet, printers and other specialized services -- without the need to purchase, provision and maintain a dedicated controller at the remote site.

HiPath Wireless now delivers service fulfillment and policy enforcement at the access point, enabling granular user and application-level wireless traffic control, including rate-limiting to user-defined thresholds and flexible local traffic switching -- without the need to tunnel it back to the controller. This improves service while eliminating wasteful use of valuable WAN bandwidth.

"This exclusive and powerful ability to centrally define and dynamically distribute modifiable policies for both wired and wireless users contributes significantly to reducing operational costs, while further protecting and preserving the integrity of network services," said Chris Crowell, Enterasys EVP and General Manager.
