BARCELONA--(Marketwire - February 14, 2010) - Juniper Networks® (
NYSE:
JNPR) today unveiled
new mobile security software that closes a significant security gap for
enterprises, improves productivity for mobile employees, and enables mobile
providers to monetize security services for mobile workforces. Available in
Q2 2010 for popular mobile devices, Junos Pulse is the industry's first
downloadable client software that provides secure connections across
smartphones, notebooks and netbooks to a broad range of corporate
applications. Based on the world's most scalable SSL VPN technology, Junos
Pulse delivers built-in mobile security in an extensible software platform
to enable new service models for operators.
The company also launched Juniper Mobile Secure, a new solution that
enables service providers to embed security throughout their infrastructure
-- across mobile devices, applications and networks. Mobile Secure delivers
secure user experiences at unprecedented scale based on the world's fastest
Juniper SRX Series Services Gateways and Junos Pulse software, ensuring
broad device support, investment optimization and service enablement. The
new solution builds on the growing popularity of Juniper's SRX Series,
which currently secures the majority of mobile data traffic in North
America. (See separate release on
Sprint).
"As mobile devices become ubiquitous tools for enterprise productivity,
delivering transparent security -- regardless of device and location -- is
critical to protecting the corporate network and ensuring the productivity
of mobile users," said Mark Bauhaus, executive VP and general manager for
Juniper's Service Layer Technologies. "With Juniper Mobile Secure featuring
Junos Pulse, we can now help mobile operators drive new economic models
with scalable built-in security -- enabling new revenue streams and
accelerating service delivery."
"Juniper is unveiling a comprehensive, multi-layer security architecture
for mobile devices, applications, and networks," said Jeff Wilson,
principal analyst, Network Security at Infonetics Research. "2010 will be
the year that enterprise IT departments need to get control of security for
their mobile devices and applications, and mobile network operators are
furiously trying to ramp up security to keep up with explosive growth in
traffic and threats. By articulating such a comprehensive vision, Juniper
is aiming for a leadership position in mobile security."
Juniper is demonstrating Junos Pulse here at GSMA Mobile World Congress,
and is working with mobile platform providers to deliver Junos Pulse for
use on Microsoft Corp. Windows® phones, Nokia Symbian OS devices and
other smartphone operating systems during the first half of 2010 -- with
support for 76 percent of all smartphones in use worldwide today. Junos
Pulse will also provide secure mobile access for notebook and netbook
computers, including a powerful network accelerator that speeds performance
of mobile applications and services to enable 4G-like experiences over 3G
networks.
Demonstrating the extensibility of Junos Pulse as a platform, Juniper will
offer customers optional protection against malware from Internet security
leader Webroot. Juniper will seamlessly integrate Webroot's detection
engine into Junos Pulse for Windows to enable customers to restrict access
to corporate data and applications when security threats are detected, and
to automatically eradicate threats so that employees can stay connected and
productive.
"Business customers are telling us they want to provide Windows phone users
secured access to documents and line of business applications. Junos Pulse
for Windows phones ensures that corporate resources and applications can be
easily and securely delivered in an automated way, regardless of location,"
said Paul Bryan, senior director of Windows phone product management at
Microsoft. "We are particularly delighted that Junos Pulse allows Windows
phone users to easily access SharePoint document libraries using SharePoint
Workspace Mobile."
"It's crucial to protect the mobile access for employees and partners,"
said Ukko Lappalainen, vice president, Business Smartphones at Nokia.
"Junos Pulse for Symbian is a key piece to enabling a protected experience.
By offering granular, role-based encrypted access to applications and data
from Symbian devices, Juniper and Nokia are helping enterprises ensure that
staff can be productive regardless of where they are."
Junos Pulse provides mobile users with location-aware and identity-aware
access to enterprise networks -- using the same SSL VPN gateway as
traditional desktops. The company's current client software has been
licensed broadly to run on more than 20 million PCs and mobile devices
worldwide, via networks that can seamlessly upgrade to Junos Pulse.
Enterprises and service providers can set and enforce sophisticated dynamic
and granular security policies that allow them to enable access to specific
resources and data by user identity, and restrict access by others.
"By integrating Junos Pulse in our system and smartphones, we now have a
secured broadband system, enabling our employees to access our corporate
data anywhere, anytime," said Avi Sharon, director of marketing, Comsys
Mobile, a leader in communications processors for 4G mobile devices.
Monetize New Service Offerings with Dynamic Mobile Security
Junos Pulse works closely with Juniper's SRX Series Services Gateways,
which lead the industry in depth, breadth and scale for secure access and
high-end firewall products for mobility. Coupled together, this powerful
mobile security solution secures the carrier network at multiple points
from malicious internet traffic, rogue devices and other carrier networks.
With tight services integration, Juniper is the first to deliver
large-scale role-based application policy enforcement with 'follow-me' user
access policies. This combined solution allows companies to enable security
services such as AppSecure and IPS at all locations which enhances mobile
security at the network and application level -- detecting and stopping
application misuse and sophisticated attacks before damage occurs to
protect mobile data users and effectively preventing security breaches
before they happen.
Juniper Mobile Secure also takes advantage of the Junos Space network
application platform to manage security policies across mobile devices,
applications and networks. Junos Space provides integrated threat and
device management through a single central interface that ensures security
correlation and manageability. Together, Junos Space and Junos Pulse extend
intelligence across the network and to endpoint devices -- enabling fully
programmable networks that can deliver a superior mix of experience and
economics.
Pricing and Availability
Junos Pulse is expected to be available in the first half of 2010. Pricing
will be consistent with the concurrent user pricing of Juniper's
market-leading SA Series SSL VPN and Unified Access Control products. The
Junos Space platform and applications are available now for download and
free trial -- pricing starts at $15,000.
