IEEE Conformity Assessment Program (ICAP) and Iometrix Announce Launch of IEEE 1588 Based Certification Program

PISCATAWAY, NJ--(Marketwire - March 1, 2010) - The IEEE Conformity Assessment Program (ICAP) and Iometrix have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on conformity assessment initiatives and activities associated with IEEE standards.

The first project under this agreement will be to work together in the development and operation of a certification program focused on assuring conformance to IEEE 1588 for telecommunications applications. Since its most recent issue in 2008, IEEE 1588 "Standard for a Precision Clock Synchronization Protocol for Networked Measurement and Control Systems" has been implemented on an increasing scale in public and private communications networks, as well as other industrial applications requiring precision timing.

"We are excited about this collaboration with Iometrix in developing an IEEE 1588 based certification program within the IEEE Conformity Assessment Program," said Rudi Schubert, Director of the IEEE Conformity Assessment Program. "Their broad technical capabilities and expertise in supporting standards based testing and certification programs, align with our goals to support the implementation of IEEE standards through conformity programs and our initiatives to support the conformity assessment community."

ICAP is focused on bridging IEEE standards development with the conformity assessment activities that accelerate market acceptance and enablement of new products and technologies. IEEE Industry Standards and Technology Organization (IEEE-ISTO) operates ICAP to support standards developed by the IEEE Standards Association. IEEE-ISTO, a federation of programs, is a membership organization that helps technology industry groups form, function and succeed.

"There is broad consensus in the telecommunications industry that the rollout of IEEE 1588 implementations in environments such as mobile backhaul can significantly benefit from a well-governed and universally recognized conformance testing process," said Bob Mandeville, President of Iometrix. "We are delighted to collaborate with the IEEE Conformity Assessment Program to bring our widely recognized experience in certification testing to the service of the rapidly growing packet-timing community."

About Iometrix
Iometrix is the networking industry's preeminent testing authority. Established in Silicon Valley in 2003, Iometrix is the successor to ENL (European Network Laboratories) the pioneering test lab Bob Mandeville founded in 1991 in Paris, France. Iometrix provides globally recognized and trusted certification tests as the official test laboratory of the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) and the Broadband Forum (BBF). Iometrix is also strongly committed to advancing industry testing standards and has authored test specifications in several leading standards bodies including the IETF, IEEE, MEF, MSF, IP/MPLS Forum and BBF.
