LOS ANGELES, March 18, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- IMAX Corporation (Nasdaq:IMAX) (TSX:IMX) and Warner Bros. Pictures today announced that Hubble 3D, the latest installment of the successful IMAX space film series, opens in select IMAX® theatres starting tomorrow. The film has already received rave reviews nationwide. Early highlights include:
- "An awesome 3D documentary." - Entertainment Weekly
- "'Hubble 3D' truly dazzles." - Associated Press
- "Thrilling and mesmerizing" - Daily Variety
- "This film has to be seen to be believed." - The Hollywood Reporter
- "Breathtaking, extraordinary and awe-inspiring!" - Access Hollywood
Through the power of IMAX 3D, Hubble 3D will enable moviegoers to journey through distant galaxies to explore the grandeur and mysteries of our celestial surroundings, and accompany space-walking astronauts as they attempt some of the most difficult and important tasks in NASA's history. The film will offer an inspiring and unique look into the Hubble Space Telescope's legacy and highlight its profound impact on the way we view the universe and ourselves.
"It's been said that The IMAX Experience® is the next best thing to being in space, and with IMAX 3D, the audience really IS there," said Producer/Director Toni Myers. "Fifteen years ago we made a film about space exploration that included Hubble, when it started sending back the first images. Today, we have Hubble's entire phenomenal legacy of data to explore. With IMAX 3D we can transport people to galaxies that are 10 billion light years away—back to the edge of time. Real star travel is here at last."
"We are thrilled that the remarkable footage captured by the astronauts as well as the inspiring Hubble images will be available to audiences through the power of IMAX," said Dan Fellman, President, Domestic Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures. "We look forward to moviegoers worldwide having the opportunity to be transported via Hubble 3D in the months and years to come."
"Hubble 3D transports people further than they have ever gone before through the magic of IMAX 3D, and thanks to the heroic efforts of the astronauts of STS-125 and the Hubble IMAX filmmaking team lead by Producer/Director Toni Myers," said IMAX CEO Richard L. Gelfond. "Transporting people to places they can only dream of going has always been an important part of IMAX's heritage, we're very proud to continue that tradition with this latest installment of our incredible space film series."
"We're very excited to share this awe-inspiring film with space fans and IMAX audiences worldwide, and we're thrilled with the excellent early reviews of the film," added Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Filmed Entertainment. "IMAX space films have always been a favorite with moviegoers because they epitomize the essence of The IMAX Experience, which is to take people to places they normally couldn't visit. In Hubble 3D, that place includes a journey to the edge of the observable universe and back."
Hubble 3D will also play in IMAX (2D) in various locations starting tomorrow and in the coming months expand wider to additional IMAX and IMAX 3D locations worldwide.
The film is scheduled to play at the following IMAX® Theatres beginning March 19th.
