SCOPE Alliance to Host "Cloud Computing in Telecom" Workshop

Fourteen Executive Presenters Discuss the Affect of Cloud Computing on Traditional Carrier-Grade Platforms Used in Telecom Networks

PISCATAWAY, NJ--(Marketwire - April 13, 2010) -  SCOPE Alliance, an association of leading Network Equipment Providers (NEPs), today announced its May 5-6 "Cloud Computing in Telecom" workshop to be held at the IEEE Operations Center in Piscataway, New Jersey.

Executive presenters from SCOPE Alliance member companies as well as guest companies will offer their perspectives on the emergence of the network cloud, how virtualization is useful in cloud computing, cloud computing security, and more. The complete workshop agenda is available at www.scope-alliance.org/events.

"Cloud computing is an emerging technology that is impacting future enterprise computing service implementations," said SCOPE Alliance Chair Leslie Guth. "New Internet telecom services like Vonage, Skype and MagicJack are emerging, and it is not yet clear how cloud computing can be used to implement traditional telecom services. We look forward to exploring this with a number of industry leaders."

SCOPE's "Cloud Computing in Telecom" workshop will examine how applicable cloud computing is to telecom and how cloud computing can be used to implement telecom services. Telecom encompasses a broad spectrum of services from POTS, Conferencing, Video-conferencing, PABX and Cellular in a broad set of network elements such as core network elements and RAN network elements. The network elements can sit on the control side of the network, bearer side, or be responsible for both control and bearer. Workshop presenters will examine the impact of cloud computing on this network architecture.

Presentations will also include an examination of some key carrier-grade platform functionalities, as well as virtualization and a discussion of cloud computing service management models such as SaaS, PaaS and laaS.

Two presentations -- "Cloud Computing Security," and "Using 'Secure by Design' Principles to Secure the Cloud" will explore privacy and security in telecom communications and subscriber data.

"Cloud Computing in Telecom" registration is open to SCOPE Alliance members until Friday, April 30, 2010. Registration and membership information is available at www.SCOPE-Alliance.org.
