NEW YORK, April 13, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Ticonderoga Securities, an institutional broker dealer, today announced that it has expanded into the energy sector with the addition of Analysts Anthony Montano III, Daniel Pratt and John Malone, all formerly of IHS Herold.
Montano, Pratt and Malone bring both operational and financial experience to the firm's new Energy Group, and will focus initially on thematic market analysis, before initiating specific coverage of firms operating in the oil and gas sector.
"The dynamic experience and unique approach that Anthony, Daniel and John bring to this group is a testament to our focus on building out the firm with the most valuable and resourceful team of analysts and traders possible," said Ticonderoga CEO and co-founder Shawn McLoughlin. "Their diverse backgrounds and broad spectrum of knowledge of the energy industry will be advantageous both to our clients and to the firm as a whole."
Montano comes to Ticonderoga with more than 20 years of investment research experience and has covered all facets of the energy chain since 1995. Prior to Ticonderoga, he was a Vice President and Senior Energy Equity Analyst at IHS Herold, where he covered Exploration & Production (E&P) companies. Montano was previously with such firms as Access Securities, TIAA-CREF Investment Management and the IBM Retirement Fund. He graduated from Manhattanville College in 1984 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics/Management and from the University of Notre Dame Mendoza College of Business in 1989 with a Masters of Business Administration.
Pratt joins Ticonderoga Securities as Director of Energy Research, covering equities in the E&P sector. Prior to Ticonderoga, Pratt spent 12 years at John S. Herold, Inc., which was acquired by IHS in 2007, and most recently served as Vice President of Equity Research where he was head of E&P coverage and helped build the institutional research platform. He graduated from the University of Rochester in 1996 with a B.A. in Economics and Finance. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a member of the Stamford Society of Security Analysts.
Prior to Ticonderoga, Malone was Vice President and Senior Strategy Analyst at IHS Herold, specializing in international E&Ps. Before Herold, he was a Vice President with MMC Energy, a power generation-focused private equity fund, and an energy consultant with broker Poten & Partners focusing on natural gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG). As a field geologist, Malone has conducted exploration work in the Middle East, North Atlantic and the U.S. He holds a BA in International Relations from Lehigh University and a PhD in Geology from Trinity College Dublin.
In addition to energy, Ticonderoga's fundamental analysts provide actionable research in a variety of sectors such as technology, which includes semiconductors, the technology supply chain, networking, IT hardware and China technology; financial services, which includes asset management, brokerage firms, exchanges, market structure and e-finance; and homebuilding and building products, as well as a daily overview of market trends and economic outlook.
