Complimentary Webinar Available in Both English and Chinese

COLUMBUS, OH--(Marketwire - April 16, 2010) -  Chinese consumer confidence is up 25% year-over-year, according to the April 2010 "Prosper in China" Webinar (which includes insights from over 16,000 consumers 18-54 collected in the Q1 2010 BIGresearch® China Quarterly). Year-over-year, the percentage of Chinese consumers feeling better off about their personal finances has increased as well, rising from 24.3% in Q1 2009 to 37% this quarter.

Possibly attributed to the improving economic readings in China, the number of consumers focused on needs over wants has declined to 41.3% (from 44.6% Q1 2009), and the number of budget conscious consumers has declined to 34.3% (from 40.1% Q1 2009). When it comes to high dollar durables, Chinese consumers' spending intentions outpace those of their American counterparts. One example: 40.1% of Chinese Consumers ages 18-54 are planning on purchasing vacation travel in the next six months, compared to 16.4% of Americans the same age.

"Currently, the consumer accounts for 35% of China's GDP and based on insights from the China Quarterly, the consumer appears ready to do their share in raising consumption 6 to 15 points over the next 10 to 20 years," said Roger Saunders, Managing Director, ProsperChina.com. "The April 2010 webinar provides marketers with the information they need to capture a piece of that purchasing power... a better understanding of the Chinese consumer."
