CLARINDA, Iowa, May 10, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Naturally Iowa, Inc. (Pink Sheets:NLIA) announced today that President and CEO William Horner, along with representatives from its regional distributor, Acme Paper, and staff from the General Services Administration, participated in GSA's Earth Day Celebration in Washington, D.C. They highlighted the progress made by the GSA as they lead the way in finding important solutions to everyday environmental issues.
The U.S. General Services Administration has purchased the first high-speed composting machine on the GSA schedule (the ORCA Green Machine) for use in GSA's Regional Office Building Cafeteria in Washington D.C.
By purchasing the ORCA Green Machine, GSA is preventing 290,000 pounds of waste from going to local landfills, 2,000,000 cubic feet of methane gas from entering our atmosphere, and saving fuel and vehicles from hauling food waste and other compostable packaging to the landfill. A GSA spokesman stated, "With the use of new compostable packaging and our new ORCA Green Machine, we are taking active measures to reduce the impact we are having on the world around us." This high-speed composting machine is a part of Naturally Iowa's GSA Vendor listing, along with Green Bottle Spring Water.
Another significant event took place last week during the GSA Training Conference and EXPO 2010. Once again, Naturally Iowa's Green Bottle Spring Water was selected as the exclusive bottled water for the Conference. A video of last year's event in San Antonio can be viewed at http://www.naturallyiowa.com/">www.naturallyiowa.com with a click on GSA. With the cooperation of CenterPlate, the Food and Beverage provider for the nation's second largest convention center, Naturally Iowa's Green Bottle Spring Water was provided to thousands of potential buyers at the EXPO. CenterPlate arranged to have all the empty bottles taken to a nearby compost facility.
Mr. Horner joined the USDA BioPreferred Team at the Convention Center to brief the nearly ten thousand participants on the meaning and value that BioPreferred products have for government agencies as they move toward the use of "earth friendly" products and practices
