New Research Finds Public Sector Organizations Access Information Faster Using Business Intelligence

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwire - June 9, 2010) -  As the most influential financial institutions struggled to stay afloat during the fall of 2008, market instability wreaked havoc on the public sector. Aberdeen's latest research report, "Business Intelligence in the Public Sector: The Value of Efficient Resource Utilization," announced today by Aberdeen Group, a Harte-Hanks Company (NYSE: HHS), finds that public sector organizations which have used Business Intelligence to improve their organizational stability and flexibility in troubled times have adapted their organizations to the task.

The report reveals the strategies top performing public sector organizations use to meet their requirements. Aberdeen's research found:

  • 66% of Public Sector organizations require access to their organizational data within seconds or minutes, but only 20% of organizations have this level of responsiveness.
  • Public Sector organizations that can access information at the speed they require it can do so because of the technology they have adopted to manage that information. Successful organizations are 82% more likely to employ Master Data Management, 54% more likely to employ Data Modeling technology, and 78% more likely to employ Self-Service On-Demand BI portals -- technology solutions that support the three key functions of business intelligence.
  • Successful public sector organizations recognize that technology is not enough to attain top performance. These organizations work to understand what business intelligence can do for them, rather than simply buying a piece of software and expecting it to work on its own.

"Public sector organizations desperately seek ways to squeeze every ounce of value out of their resources," says Michael Lock, Senior Research Analyst and co-author of the study. "Organizations that have developed a complete strategy for BI and information management have been successful in reaching a level of efficiency in their data integration capabilities, their human resource management, and their information delivery capabilities."
