GetWell Town(TM) Boosts Patient Education in New Outpatient Medical Center for Children

BETHESDA, MD--(Marketwire - June 17, 2010) -  GetWellNetwork, Inc., the leader in interactive patient care solutions, today announced that the company's pediatric solution, GetWell Town™, has been selected for patient education, discharge planning, and other patient-related workflows to maximize efficiency at the new Kosair Children's Medical Center in Louisville, KY. GetWell Town will provide Kosair Children's patients and families with the tools they need to become knowledgeable and engaged in their health care.

"As an outpatient facility, we have a small window of time to treat and help our patients and families get the information they need to stay healthy; GetWell Town delivers award-winning health information for children in an effective and personalized way," said Charlotte Ipsan, vice president of Administration at Kosair Children's Medical Center - Brownsboro. "As a clinician, I'm very pleased that we have a tool that can ease children's stress of being in a medical center, prepares them and their families for good long-term health, and helps them return to the comfort of their homes quickly."

Young patients who arrive at the medical center will have the opportunity to learn about their health, see personalized information about their caregivers, watch videos that explain surgical procedures, and receive safety information -- all in child-friendly, age-appropriate ways that are selected by the hospital caregivers for the patients. GetWell Town is equipped with more than 160 patient education videos through an exclusive partnership with KidsHealth® and Kosair Children's will also include custom video content that have been created by the medical center.

Kosair Children's Medical Center - Brownsboro is also leveraging GetWell Town in other areas of the hospital, not just in patient rooms. For children who come to the hospital for diagnostic treatments, the hospital has set up GetWell Town in the diagnostic areas to help maximize learning opportunities for both parents and patients. In addition, GetWell Town will also be used to entertain the children and their families, which adds to their comfort during their visit. GetWell Town's entertainment features include Internet access, recent movies, games and more.

"We applaud Kosair Children's Medical Center's thoughtful approach in designing their facility and orchestrating their processes so that families and children are made the priority," said Shannon O'Neil, MSW, Director of Pediatrics, GetWellNetwork, Inc. "As children and families become better informed about their health, we believe better patient outcomes will be a natural result, which is why this is such an exciting project."
