REDWOOD CITY, CA--(Marketwire - June 22, 2010) -  ReputationDefender, the world's leading online reputation and privacy management company, today announced it has secured $15 million in Series C funding, led by JAFCO Ventures. The round included additional investments from Series B investors, Bessemer Venture Partners and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. Nick Sturiale, managing partner from Jafco, will also join the company's board. ReputationDefender will use the funds to deepen its management team, expand customer acquisition efforts and develop new products for consumers and small/medium businesses. ReputationDefender has raised $24 million in the last year to support its vision of making it easier for consumers and businesses to take control of their private information and online reputations.

Privacy and online reputation management are becoming increasingly important according to a recent Pew Research Center study which found substantial increases in the number of searches that Internet users are doing of co-workers, romantic partners, neighbors and acquaintances. In fact, fully 69 percent had searched for information about someone else online. The study also demonstrated that the more aware consumers were of what was available about them online, the more interested they were in actively managing that information.

ReputationDefender, the pioneer and global leader of this growing market, is geared toward helping Internet users accurately represent themselves online. New search and data aggregation technologies, paired with the explosion of social networking, have created a need for the company's services among professionals, small business owners, children, students, social Web enthusiasts, parents and more. ReputationDefender's suite of products helps these users discover what is on the Internet about them, delete personal information from online databases and define how they look when someone is searching for them online. In turn, these services improve job seekers' chances of gaining employment, help parents stay informed of their child's activities online and remove personal information on the Web. The company also recently launched a number of product enhancements including PrivacyDefender, a free application for resetting the privacy settings on one's Facebook account.

"We've spent the last few months listening to our customers' needs, improving our existing products and developing new products that meet these growing needs," said Michael Fertik, ReputationDefender founder and CEO. "In the coming months, we'll launch more products and additional service improvements. This latest financing will give us the capital we need to accelerate our efforts and meet the increasing market demand."

"In light of the recent Facebook and Google privacy scandals, there has been a lot of media emphasis placed on how consumers can protect themselves. But it's not just privacy people are looking for -- they also want to be able to proactively control and manage the information that appears online about themselves," said Sturiale. "ReputationDefender has an important mission, a great management team and a strong business plan, it is clear the company is poised to lead this next wave of innovation around online security."
