The round included additional investments from Series B investors, Bessemer Venture Partners and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. Nick Sturiale, managing partner from Jafco, will also join the company's board. ReputationDefender will use the funds to deepen its management team, expand customer acquisition efforts and develop new products for consumers and small/medium businesses. ReputationDefender has raised $24 million in the last year to support its vision of making it easier for consumers and businesses to take control of their private information and online reputations.

Privacy and online reputation management are becoming increasingly important according to a recent Pew Research Center study which found substantial increases in the number of searches that Internet users are doing of co-workers, romantic partners, neighbors and acquaintances. In fact, fully 69 percent had searched for information about someone else online. The study also demonstrated that the more aware consumers were of what was available about them online, the more interested they were in actively managing that information.
