All Eyes on Kentucky

Kentucky Tourism Site Features Online Scavenger Hunt

FRANKFORT, KY--(Marketwire - July 7, 2010) -  The Kentucky Department of Travel announced the redesign of the state's official tourism site, KentuckyTourism.com, with the launch of a unique online scavenger hunt promotion.

"All eyes will be on Kentucky in the fall of 2010 when the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games are held outside of Europe for the first time at the Kentucky National Horse Park in Lexington," stated Kentucky Tourism Director Mike Cooper. "The launch of the new KentuckyTourism.com could not come at a better time. The new site shows the world that Kentucky is truly a unique treasure both geographically and culturally."

Online Scavenger Hunt
To promote the launch of the new site, The Department of Kentucky Travel is hosting a one-of-a kind online "digital scavenger hunt" on the website. Visitors to the site are invited to hunt throughout the site for fun Kentucky-themed icons to earn extra entries in Grand Prize Kentucky Vacation giveaways.

With social media tie-ins and a chance to win one of five Kentucky vacation packages, the unique Scavenger Hunt encourages visits to and through the new site. The Kentucky-themed interactive icons serve to introduce visitors to surprising and unique places and features of the state. Site visitors can register to play and view vacation package details on scavengerhunt.KentuckyTourism.com.

Explore By Geography and Topic
The new KentuckyTourism.com encourages exploration of the state through inviting images, user friendly navigation and design concept. Site architecture enables visitors to quickly explore the state by area or by topic.

"Kentucky's uniqueness really shows through when visitors explore the site and plan vacations by topic -- from attractions, food and dining, golf, history, arts and shopping to Kentucky's famous lakes, mountains, Bourbon, horses and caves," Cooper stated. "The site is both an inviting visual tour of Kentucky and an information-rich trip planning resource."

Site visitors can also explore by specific city or town and learn what is nearby those locations (i.e. attractions, lodging, restaurants, etc.). Listings feature mapping interfaces that help visitors see at a glance where a city, attraction, lodging, etc. is located within the state.

The interactive site also features links to Kentucky's social media sites on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube and enables visitors to sign up to receive e-newsletters and RSS Feeds.
