ShareThis Makes Social Traffic Count

Audience Index and Social Reach Gives Publishers a New, Better Measure of the Social Impact of Their Content, Audiences

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA--(Marketwire - August 26, 2010) -  Today, ShareThis, the world's largest market for sharing and influence, introduced the ShareThis Audience Index and Social Reach, new tools to give publishers Web-wide insights into the true social value of their audiences and content. The ShareThis Audience Index enables Web-based publishers to see the aggregate sharing habits of their audiences and compare them by category against other sites across the Web, while Social Reach allows them to measure the true social impact of their content.

The Audience Index is the first tool to give publishers a new way to look at the social quality of their audiences. By tapping its extensive sharing network, ShareThis measures and segments a publisher's audience by influence -- who has shared, responded to, and viewed content from their site -- and indexes it by category against other sites across the Web. Publishers can now see how social their audiences are against other sites in their category, and soon will be able to surface related interests their audience may have that they would not have otherwise known about or predicted before.

Also launched today, Social Reach moves beyond simple sharing counter buttons and measures the true engagement and social value of content by evaluating outbound shares from ShareThis' network combined with all inbound socially referred traffic. The result is a more accurate measurement of how a piece of content circulates around the Web after it's been shared across any service, rather than just the simple number of shares counted by a single service. With Social Reach, publishers now have another effective tool to gauge the real value of their content.

"By monitoring what's really important -- sharing and social traffic -- our new analytics and metrics give publishers what they've been asking us for, the ability to attract the right audiences and the right premiums for those audiences," said Tim Schigel, CEO of ShareThis. "We believe new ways of measuring social influence will continue to fundamentally alter the financial constructs of online publishing."

ShareThis also released a new set of sharing buttons last week that provides a one-stop shop for publishers' sharing needs, including separate buttons for Twitter and Facebook sharing -- which both include built-in Social Reach counters -- and more than 40 other sharing and social services. With six customizable styles, the ShareThis buttons give publishers several options for display as well as the Social Reach of each piece of content on a website, giving publishers a far more comprehensive picture of their content's sharing and social performance than either the Facebook Share button or Tweet Button -- or both -- can provide.
