SDForum and Innovation Center Denmark Present: The Future of Health Innovation

SAN MATEO, Calif., Sept. 30, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- SDForum, Silicon Valley's leading source of information and education in the technology community, will host the first ever conference on how innovative technologies in Denmark and the U.S. can address today's challenges in the health care sector. The two-day conference is presented in partnership with Innovation Center Denmark and takes place at Stanford University, October 26-27, 2010.

The conference is a unique opportunity to meet Danish business and hospital executives, startups, scientists and government officials whose technologies and research are behind what the Commonwealth Study concluded is the most efficient IT health care system in the world. Insights will also be provided by leaders and influencers in California, the sixth largest economy in the world and a front runner state in the nation's use of electronic health records and home to agenda setting companies and hospitals.

"With the advent of new technologies such as telemedicine and e-health portals offering our citizen cross-sector access to their patient journals and health records, we provide a new, patient centered approach," says Bertel Haarder, Danish Minister for Health and the Interior. "By extending treatment and consultation to the living room, we see a satisfaction rate increase in both patients and clinicians, while also reducing costs."

The use of electronic health records alone currently saves physicians in Denmark an average of 50 minutes a day in administrative work and Denmark's health system, encompassing its 5.5 million people, as much as $120 million a year.

"Not just providing access, but extracting relevant patient data across these platforms is the next step, which will empower both the patient and the clinician to make evidence-based treatment decisions," says Henning Bruun-Schmidt, ACURE's director of Market Development.

"I predict that within a decade, no practicing physician will consider treating their patients without the support/advice of health expertise embodied in a system that enables patients to self-care and self-manage their health," says Adam Bosworth, Founder and CEO of Keas, and a keynote speaker at the Future of Health Innovation conference. "Systems are emerging that help consumers get personalized advice and information about their health, and these systems are going to be incredible treasure troves of data about what works, and what doesn't."

"This conference is an exceptional opportunity to share learning lessons for all actors in the industry, from technologists to care providers," said Susan Lucas-Conwell, CEO of SDForum.
