FiReGlobal: West Coast to Highlight Revolutionary Connectivity Platform Intersect

FRIDAY HARBOR, WA--(Marketwire - October 20, 2010) - The FiReGlobal: West Coast Conference is proud to announce that Intersect has been selected as a FiReStar company. FiReStar companies, both local and global, are chosen for their potential to bring large-scale positive change to the world; eight of these companies will be showcased throughout the FiReGlobal: West Coast conference, and at a FiReStar reception, where local and global investors will be given the chance to meet company officers. Past FiReStar companies have included Tesla Motors, CytomX Therapeutics and Serious Materials.

Intersect brings together two concepts -- storylines and intersections -- in ways that make it easier for people, organizations, and communities to connect, collaborate, share, build knowledge and understanding, and assess character and reputation. Writer, press critic, and NYU Professor Jay Rosen has said that "Intersect is the first tool built specifically for a self-informing public to share its stories." The company was founded by Pulitzer Prize winning former journalist and serial tech entrepreneur Peter Rinearson.

"Our goal with Intersect is to make it interesting and fun for people to share in ways that foster a greater sense of community and connectedness to each other and the places we value," said Rinearson. "We're thrilled to have been selected as a FiReStar company."

The FiReGlobal: West Coast conference will take place November 11th at the Seattle Fairmont Olympic Hotel. This is the second annual regional version of the renowned Future in Review™ global technology conference, which the Economist calls "the best technology conference in the world." FiReGlobal: West Coast will showcase a world-class gathering of local and global thought leaders in technology and economics through a series of interviews and onstage conversations. The conference will feature Oracle President Mark Hurd, who will take the stage as a Conversation Interview in his first outside speaking engagement since joining Oracle. In a move beyond other tech conferences, FiReGlobal: West Coast has overlaid regional problems nominated by local leaders, to be solved through the collaboration of local Chief Technology Officers prior to the conference.

"Intersect takes a critically important aspect of how our brains integrate with society -- through the telling of our own life stories -- and makes this into a brilliant social networking tool, with implications for journalism, community building, and how we think about the past, present, and even future. Wow. We are delighted to be able to feature Intersect as one of our FiReStar Companies this year," said Mark Anderson, CEO of SNS, Chair of FiRe and FiReGlobal: West Coast.
