Kingspan Insulated Panels North America Launches Path to NetZero(TM) at Greenbuild 2010

Unique Tool Simulates Process of Achieving High-Performance and Net-Zero Energy Buildings

DELAND, FL--(Marketwire - November 10, 2010) - Kingspan Insulated Panels North America, a global manufacturer of insulated metal panels, will launch its Path to NetZero™ at Greenbuild 2010, Nov. 16-19 at McCormick Place West, Chicago, Ill.

Kingspan will introduce the Path to NetZero during a press conference on Tuesday, Nov. 16, from 1-2 p.m. in room 473 at McCormick Place West. The Path to NetZero will be available to the construction industry at www.pathtonetzero.com and through free apps designed for iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch and Android mobile devices. The Kingspan NetZero team will demonstrate both the microsite and the app at the Kingspan booth (#2039), where they will also display the Powerpanel™- Kingzip™ insulated standing seam roof system with photovoltaics (PVs) and a selection of insulated wall systems.

"This unique tool for the building industry simulates the process of energy modeling high-performance envelope and net-zero scenarios," explained Paul Bertram, Jr., FCI, CDT, LEED AP, director, environment and sustainability at Kingspan Insulated Panels North America. "Select one of four cities, a building type (school, office, or warehouse) and a baseline building designed to ASHRAE 90.1.2004. Choose a Kingspan insulated roof and wall system and compare savings. Benchmarks for the tool are aligned with the DOE Commercial Building Initiative and LEED 2009/3.0 requirements."

The Path to NetZero is based on a study commissioned by Kingspan and conducted by the Architectural Energy Corporation. The study, which simulated three buildings in four locations, indicated that continuous insulation with high effective R-value and superior airtightness achieved significant energy savings, followed by renewables such as PVs.

Bertram will moderate a session for Greenbuild attendees on Nov. 19 at 8:30 a.m. in room 179 entitled "Insights in Energy Costs Savings, Envelope Performance and NZE." Peter Baker, lead associate engineer for building forensic work, Building Science Corporation; Kristin Field, mechanical engineer II, National Renewable Energy Laboratory; and Roger Hedrick, LEED AP, senior engineer, Architectural Energy Corporation, will join Bertram to report on modeling results that evaluate energy savings and the impact of using roof and wall insulated metal panels (IMPs).

The new tool identifies energy cost savings and reductions in carbon dioxide emissions, annually and over a period of 25 years, that can be attributed to IMPs. Path to NetZero also shows the return on investment, build speed and potential U.S. Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) points associated with wall and roof IMPs.
