STAMFORD, CT--(Marketwire - November 30, 2010) - AlliedBarton Security Services,, the industry's premier provider of highly trained security personnel, will be hosting a workplace violence and active shooter prevention seminar from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, December 7th 2010 at Purdue Pharma L.P.'s headquarters at One Stamford Forum in Stamford, CT. As keynote speaker, Stamford Police Chief Robert Nivakoff will address workplace violence prevention and the role of local police in the event of a workplace violence incident.

A study from the National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health reports that more than 70% of US workplaces do not have a formal program or policy in place to address workplace violence. "Knowing that employees feel their jobs are more stressful today, it is not surprising that there has been a rise in workplace violence," said Dave Silvey, Vice President & General Manager for AlliedBarton Security Services. "Many experts believe these incidents are the result of increasing work pressures and uncertainly about job stability. Business leaders need to be prepared for and proactively try to prevent workplace violence."

Discussion and workshop topics include recognizing and preventing workplace violence, policies and procedures, community resources and responding to and surviving active shooters.

Speakers include: Sandy Goldstein, President of the Stamford Downtown Special Services District; Chief Robert Nivakoff, Sergeant Kevin Fitzgibbons and Sergeant Tom Wolff of the Stamford Police Department; and Rich Cordivari, Vice President of Learning & Development for AlliedBarton.

Media interested in attending this event are encouraged to RSVP to the press contact in this release. There is no cost to attend this public service event.
