CAMBRIDGE, MA--(Marketwire - November 30, 2010) -  On December 8, the MIT Enterprise Forum of Cambridge will present The Covidien Story: Commitment to Innovation, New Ideas and Technology, featuring a keynote presentation by Richard J. Meelia, Covidien's chairman, president and CEO. Covidien is a leading global healthcare products company that creates innovative medical solutions for better patient outcomes and delivers value through clinical leadership and excellence.

Following the presentation, a panel of medtech investors will discuss start-up strategies and the potential for acquisition. The panelists will discuss whether the end-game strategy of acquisition is a good idea for medtech companies; what large medtech companies are seeking in a potential company to acquire; and how entrepreneurs can best prepare, promote and position their technology for an acquisition strategy.

Panelists:

  • Ed Cahill, is a partner at HLM Venture Partners, providing venture capital to emerging companies focused on health care information technology, health care services and medical devices.
  • Jed Cohen, is the managing director of investment banking, medical devices at Leerink Swann, an investment bank to both emerging and established healthcare companies.

Moderator:

  • Richard Smith is a partner at Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge law firm where he counsels medtech companies on corporate issues including mergers and acquisitions, corporate formation, venture capital and other financing, joint ventures, university licensing and intellectual property strategies.
