Historic Hartford Church Celebrates 340th Christmas Season

Series of Events in December Seek to "Keep the Christ in Christmas"


HARTFORD, CT--(Marketwire - November 30, 2010) - Founded in 1670, South Church at 277 Main Street is one of Hartford's oldest churches. To conclude its 340th anniversary celebration in 2010, South Church is hosting a variety of Christmas Season events in December. All events are free and open to the public.

On Friday, December 3 at 7 pm, South Church will host a Christmas Carol Sing in the Chapel. This event will include the lighting of the Christmas tree on the front lawn, refreshments and games in the fellowship hall.

On Sunday, December 19, South Church will hold a traditional Christmas worship service in the Meeting House at 9:30 am, followed by a Christmas Cookie Walk at 10:15 and the annual Christmas Pageant at 11 am.

At 7 pm that evening, South Church will present "When Love Came Down," a free Christmas concert featuring the new South Church Chamber Choir, students from Grace Academy, and the Solid Ground Praise Band. 

On Friday, December 24 at 11 pm, South Church will hold a Christmas Eve candlelight service in the Meeting House.
