Long Island Private School, The Sappo School, Gets Gift From 1-Source Electronic Components

MEDFORD, NY--(Marketwire - December 6, 2010) - Students and teachers at Long Island private school The Sappo School were pleasantly surprised Wednesday to find a large pile of nice presents waiting for them in the classroom: three notebook computers, five desktop computers with flat-screen monitors, several office chairs, a laser printer, and other computer equipment, courtesy of electronic components distributor 1-Source Electronic Components of Port Jefferson Station.

"This is so exciting for the kids and the school," said Joanne Sappo, founder and executive director of the school.

Robert Lodato, Vice President of 1-Source, stated: "We believe in what the Sappo School is doing for the community in helping young people, many with special needs, to succeed as students, and we wanted to show our appreciation in this way."

An impressive ninety-five percent of Sappo School students go on to successful college educations. Some have even attended prestigious universities, including Harvard and Cornell, after being helped by the school. This is especially impressive considering that many of these students had previously given up hope of having a successful education, due to anxiety and other issues.

The Sappo School is one of only three non-religious Kindergarten through 12th Grade private schools on Long Island, and is the only non-religious K-12 private school on Long Island with Regents approval, allowing Regents exams to be administered at the school.

"It's amazing what this school has accomplished," said Mr. Lodato, "It's a testament to the effective teaching methods developed by Joanne, in addition to the caring staff and environment at the school."

"We're so thrilled to receive these computers," said Ms. Sappo, "They will be put to good use by our students as part of our technology training which gives kids a practical hands-on knowledge that will serve them throughout their education and their careers."

Anyone interested in donating to the school, enrolling a student, or learning more about The Sappo School or its teaching methods, can contact the school's Assistant Director Rebecca Gehrkin at 1-631-736-2146.
