StoneRiver Selects Mule ESB to Power First True SOA Platform for the Insurance Market

Mule Selected for Performance and Flexibility

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - December 7, 2010) - MuleSoft, the provider of web middleware built on leading open source projects Mule ESB and Apache Tomcat, today announced that it has entered into a strategic OEM partnership with StoneRiver, the leading provider of the insurance industry's widest range of technology solutions and services. The partnership is a result of StoneRiver's selection and implementation of MuleSoft's Mule ESB to underpin its Insurance Integration Platform (IIP), the backbone of its new Stream™ all-lines insurance administration solution set.

StoneRiver delivers the insurance industry's widest range of technology solutions and services to carriers, agents, and broker-dealers. The company's offerings encompass front-office, policy, claim, rating, underwriting, billing, reinsurance, financial and compliance solutions for all major business lines. Hundreds of companies rely on StoneRiver software and processing solutions to help them streamline their complex business processes.

"We evaluated a number of ESBs, and Mule quickly rose to the top of our list and stayed there," said Chris Phillips, Chief Architect for Insurance Solutions at StoneRiver. "We liked that the open source Community Edition allowed us to start using Mule without a long negotiation phase, but we had the option to move to the Enterprise Edition, as our needs dictated. We were able to run Mule through our myriad of complex use cases across our Insurance product lines and quickly found that it exceeded our expectations in flexibility and performance."

The StoneRiver Insurance Integration Platform (IIP) enables StoneRiver customers to implement new application modules quickly via integration with external services or other StoneRiver modules, providing a single user interface and a common set of shared services. The cornerstone of the IIP architecture is an ESB, embedded in a Java EE application, providing a high-performing application-level service-oriented architecture (SOA).

"With their IIP based offerings, StoneRiver is raising the bar around rapid implementation and business flexibility in the insurance industry," said Chris Purpura, VP of Corporate and Business Development at MuleSoft. "Mule is an ideal candidate for industry-focused solution providers, since it is lightweight, embeddable, and provides extremely robust and scalable integration capabilities out of the box. This allows solution providers to focus on what they do best -- applying their domain knowledge and proprietary technology to serve their clients."
