Technology Industry Veteran David Tang to Lead AMD Greater China

Former Nokia and 3Com Executive Brings More Than 20 Years of Experience in Driving Successful Computing Businesses in China


BEIJING--(Marketwire - December 15, 2010) - AMD (NYSE: AMD) today announced that David Tang will join the company as senior vice president, AMD, and president of AMD Greater China. He is expected to start Feb. 1, 2011 and will be responsible for executing a single, integrated corporate strategy for all of AMD's business in the Greater China region. He will report to Dirk Meyer, AMD president and chief executive officer, and be a member of AMD's senior executive team. Tang will be based in AMD's Beijing office and replaces Karen Guo, who will leave AMD at the end of the year.

Prior to joining AMD, Tang most recently worked as the group vice chairman of Nokia China and chairman, Nokia Telecommunications Ltd. with responsibility for government relations, strategic partnerships, business strategy, corporate reputation, corporate sustainability and corporate development. While at Nokia, he led China sales for five years, growing the business significantly from 2005 to 2009.

Prior to Nokia, Tang worked at 3Com for seven years, leaving as president, China and North Asia Beijing regions. Earlier in his career, Tang held various marketing and business roles at Digital Equipment, AST Research and Apple Computer.

Tang has a bachelor's degree in computer science and engineering from California State University at Long Beach and a master's degree in business from California State University at Fullerton.

In 2010, Tang was named one of the "Ten Best Professional Managers of the Decade" by CEO & CIO magazine in China. He serves as the vice president of the European Chamber of Commerce in China, vice chairman of the China Association of Enterprises with Foreign Investments, and vice chairman of the Beijing International Chamber of Commerce.
