Sustainability Roundtable, Inc. Names BNY Mellon 2010 Outstanding Corporate Leader of the Year

Washington, DC Summit on Sustainable Corporate Real Estate Brings Key Players Together to Exchange Best Practices

CAMBRIDGE, MA--(Marketwire - December 15, 2010) - Sustainability Roundtable, Inc., ("SR Inc.") the leader in shared-cost research and consulting on best practices in more sustainable business, today announced its "Sustainable Corporate Real Estate Roundtable's Outstanding Corporate Leader of the Year 2010," recognizing global financial services firm BNY Mellon for its corporate-wide focus on sustainability and its leadership, particularly regarding energy optimization programs. The Corporate Leader of the Year Award was presented during SR Inc.'s Annual Sustainable Corporate Real Estate Summit held in Washington, DC.

"As a leading asset management and securities servicing company, BNY Mellon is helping to set an ever-improving standard for corporate sustainability in the built environment," said Jim Boyle, CEO of Sustainability Roundtable, Inc. "With its nearly $22 trillion in assets under custody or administration, BNY Mellon demonstrates that the most impressive businesses have a point of view in which sustainability is just very smart business."

"We are committed to growing our global businesses in an environmentally sustainable way and we made an early, strategic decision to take advantage of the opportunities afforded to our business through the successful implementation of a corporate-wide sustainability program," said Chip Logan, BNY Mellon's Director of Global Facilities & Sustainability.

SR Inc. chose BNY Mellon as the Outstanding Corporate Leader Award due to its multi-faceted approach to sustainability, which applies to the company's owned and leased real estate portfolio, globally, and includes BNY Mellon's use of off-site and on-site renewable energy.

This year BNY Mellon purchased 1.125 million Renewable Energy Credits, or RECs, from NextEra Energy Resources as part of a five-year investment in alternative energy. Its total investments in wind and solar energy sources represent a 77 percent off-set of BNY Mellon's domestic annual electrical consumption and have firmly established BNY Mellon as one of the nation's Green Power Leaders.

Other sustainability initiatives implemented by the company have brought similarly impressive results. The real estate, engineering and sourcing teams use 'green' guidelines to ensure that the company's actions reflect its commitment the environment. BNY Mellon manages a portfolio of some 11 ENERGY STAR-certified commercial properties, including one of the nation's first data centers to attain ENERGY STAR. The company achieved multiple LEED EB Gold certifications from the U.S. Green Building Council in 2010 and registered other commercial interior and existing building projects too. The company also said its sustainability team has tackled new challenges brought by a resurgence in corporate M&A activity, successfully absorbing a one million square foot real estate portfolio this year as a result of BNY Mellon's purchase of the Global Investment Servicing division of PNC Financial.

This is the second year in which SR Inc. has recognized an Outstanding Corporate Leader of the Year. For more information about SR Inc. or to inquire about membership, visit www.sustainround.com.
