"Ginormous" Bad Beat Poker Jackpot Hits at Barona Resort & Casino

89 Texas Hold'em Players Share in $100,000 Win

SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwire - January 3, 2011) - Dozens of lucky Texas Hold'em players recently won a share of Barona's $100,000 Ginormous Bad Beat Jackpot -- the single largest jackpot hit in the casino's Poker Room to date.

Starting the year on an exciting note at Barona Resort & Casino, a lucky poker player lost with a very big poker hand. His four 2s were beaten by four 9s, something that's rare at a poker table. Luckily for him, his losing hand actually won the Barona Poker Room's Ginormous Bad Beat Jackpot promotion, which rewarded this rare loss handsomely. He pocketed a whopping $41,904 and the rest of the poker room split almost $60,000 more. The $100,000 was the largest poker jackpot ever awarded in Barona's Poker Room.

"We have had an exciting holiday season full of jackpots. One lucky player recently hit the biggest slot jackpot of the holiday season, nearly $600,000, on one of our Marilyn Monroe machines and now we have this incredible $100,000 poker jackpot," said Rick Salinas, general manager of Barona Resort & Casino. "Now that's what I call ringing in the New Year!"

The $100,000 Ginormous Bad Beat Jackpot promotion was launched this past September. Playing in the Bad Beat format, the second best hand lost the pot but won the jackpot. When this happened, the lucky losing player wasn't the only winner -- every player in a jackpot game in the poker room won a share. Eighty one players at other tables each won $200 just for being there. The six additional players at the winning table each received $3,491. And the player with four 9s walked off with $20,950. With this big jackpot, Barona has paid out over 1.1 million dollars in poker jackpots in 2010 alone.

"We started the $100,000 Ginormous Jackpot promotion at four 10s or better beat. When it didn't hit after a few months we started to loosen the restrictions to make it easier. We reduced the qualifier each week until it was won with four 2s beat," said Tim Malinoski, poker room manager at the Barona Resort & Casino. "We really wanted to give this money away and it couldn't have happened at a better time. Eighty-nine lucky Barona players received a special holiday gift."
