Government of Canada Supports the Lindsay Concert Foundation

LINDSAY, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 6, 2011) - On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, Barry Devolin, Member of Parliament (Haliburton–Kawartha Lakes–Brock), today announced funding for the Lindsay Concert Foundation.

This funding will help the Foundation present its year-round series of classical music concerts and artist-led workshops, children's performing arts shows, and community concerts in Lindsay from April 1, 2011, to March 31, 2013. The presenter's classical music concerts series, Kawartha Concerts, presents up to six performances each season and covers a broad range of classical music genres. The children's series, Encore Children's Productions, presents up to five diverse shows featuring Canadian theatre, dance, and children's opera from across the country. The Community Connections series engages visiting artists in targeted audience development activities and features local artists and youth musicians in concerts and outreach performances.

"Our Government is proud to continue its support for the Lindsay Concert Foundation," said Minister Moore. "Cultural events such as these are an essential part of regional tourism, economic success, and performing arts education in Kawartha Lakes."

"The Lindsay Concert Foundation's community programming provides residents and visitors with the opportunity to appreciate local and Canadian culture," said Mr. Devolin. "Its concerts and other activities create educational and creative experiences for the benefit of our rural communities."

"The Lindsay Concert Foundation extends its gratitude to the Government of Canada for supporting our organization and programs," said Steve Haviaras, General Manager of the Lindsay Concert Foundation. "The support that we have been awarded through the Department of Canadian Heritage plays a vital role in our continued growth and development, while validating the importance of our mission and goals."

The Government of Canada has provided funding of $60,000 for fiscal years 2011–2012 and 2012–2013 through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program gives Canadians increased access to the variety and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentations of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences.
