NEW YORK NY--(Marketwire - January 18, 2011) - Independent film production company Sundial Pictures and co-producer Northstar Pictures announce a special online event, Live Chat with PARIAH The Movie. Scheduled for January 19th from 8-9pm EST through LiveStream, the event includes exclusive clips from the new drama and live chat with producer Nekisa Cooper and director Dee Rees.

"We're excited about this upcoming event," says Sundial Pictures producer Joey Carey, "and proud to have had a part in bringing this powerful film to the people."

An Official Selection of the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, PARIAH is a full-length feature film based on the award-winning semi-autobiographical short, both written and directed by Rees. In this coming of age drama Alike (Adepero Oduye), a 17-year-old African-American lesbian, is torn between trying to fit in with her conservative parents and gay friends. Faced with the question of 'Who do you become when you can't be yourself?' she unsuccessfully juggles multiple identities, resulting in explosive consequences.

Starring Adepero Oduye, Pernell Walker, Sahra Mellesse, Kim Wayans, Charles Parnell, and Aasha Davis, the film brings awareness to an issue many young teenagers endure.

To help defray costs, a Kickstarter campaign began. With the $10,000 goal already met, PARIAH is giving back to the community. Half of every additional dollar raised in the campaign will be donated to The Ali Forney Center, which supports homeless LGBT youth.

In addition to the Kickstarter campaign, the public is asked to support the film by demanding it be shown in local theaters. To do so, visit the PARIAH website and enter your email address and zip code.
