"Bake for Family Fun" Month Aims to Bring Families Together in the Kitchen

Celebrating Home Urges Families to Share Recipe Traditions During February

MARSHALL, TX--(Marketwire - January 19, 2011) - Preheat your ovens! February is National Bake for Family Fun Month, a celebration designed by the Home Baking Association to encourage families to spend time together in the kitchen. Celebrating Home, a home entertaining and decorating products direct seller, has some great suggestions to cook up some warm, fragrant memories for your family.

"Having your children help in baking and meal preparation is a great way to create lasting family traditions," said Heather Chastain, president of Celebrating Home. "Even very young children can help measure and mix ingredients -- and then share in the satisfaction of watching other people enjoy the results."

For a great family meal, Chastain suggests gathering the ingredients for a warm, tasty chili simmered in Celebrating Home's signature Bean Pot. "Our Bean Pots are available in all kinds of beautiful colors and designs," says Chastain, "and they take food from the oven or microwave to the table in style. You'll serve a perfect stew, soup or casserole every time."

Heather's Family Chili
2 lbs. ground beef, cooked and drained
1 small onion, chopped
3 Tbsp. chili powder
1 Tbsp. cumin
1 8 oz. can tomato sauce
1 8 oz. can diced tomatoes
2 14.5 oz cans kidney beans
salt and pepper to taste

In a skillet, brown ground beef with chopped onion mixed in and drain well.
Add drained beef to the Bean Pot. Add all other ingredients and mix well.
Baking options:
Bake in a 250 degree oven for 3 - 4 hours.
Bake in a 350 degree oven for 1 - 2 hours.

And, while the chili is in the oven, Chastain added, have the kids help you prepare Buttermilk Cornbread to serve alongside. "As the Home Baking Association knows," said Chastain, "there's something almost magical about watching a batch of dough or batter turn into a delicious, tender loaf of bread. That's why their mission is to promote home baking by providing educators and others with the tools and knowledge to perpetuate future generations of home bakers."

Buttermilk Cornbread
1½ cups corn meal
½ cup all-purpose flour
1½ cups buttermilk
¼ cup vegetable oil
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon baking soda
2 eggs

Mix together in bean pot. Place in 350 degree oven for 30 minutes
