Red Pine Drilling Results Advance SaraCourt Exploration

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Feb. 8, 2011) - Red Pine Exploration Inc. ("Red Pine" or the "Company") (TSX VENTURE:RPX) is pleased to provide a project update for its SaraCourt Property, located within the Swayze portion of the Abitibi Greenstone belt of northern Ontario. Continued drilling is planned for late February, 2011.

Drilling Advances Exploration Model of SaraCourt

The second phase of the 2010 exploration program was designed to expand historic gold occurrences through diamond drilling, confirm historic assays, and to identify the geologic constraints of gold mineralization on the Company's extensive SaraCourt Property. The Company believes these objectives were successfully achieved through:

  • Expansion of the Michelle and Krista Zones, with intercept highlights of:
    • 12.36 m of 2.03 g/t gold including 3.40 m of 4.60 g/t (Michelle Zone)
    • 6.88 m of 1.58 g/t gold (Krista Zone)
  • Identification of the association of gold mineralization with quartz porphyry bodies and well developed shear systems (geologic model).
  • Confirmation that the DZ3 is a structurally significant geological event and is associated with anomalous gold values over a broad area.
  • Identification through grab samples of numerous anomalous gold values across SaraCourt

Exploration Update

A geologic model is being developed to focus the exploration activities around the most promising zones of the SaraCourt Property. Anomalous gold values have been identified through grab samples and channel sampling at 12 locations in addition to the Michelle, Michelle Extension, Krista and Mortimer zones (refer to presentation on Red Pine Website). The zones of interest continue to expand as the controls on the gold mineralization are developed. To refine the targeting process Red Pine has:

  • Completed a cross hole IP survey (Abitibi Geophysics) in late January, 2011 on the Michelle and Michelle Extension (results pending). This survey will assist in providing a signature of the structural controls affecting the gold mineralization. These types of surveys have been used successfully to target gold bearing structures.
  • Retained Jean-Philippe Desroches PhD, P.Geo., a specialist in structural geology applied to gold deposits. Jean-Philippe Desroches will be developing the final structural model to target the most prospective gold targets.
  • Completed a compilation of regional government geochemical surveys over SaraCourt to target untested gold anomalies
  • Budgeted 15 exploration holes (2000m) to commence in late February, 2011.

Phase Two Drilling Expands the Michelle and Krista Zones

The phase two drilling comprised a total of ten holes (RPX-10-09 through RPX-10-18), and was designed to:

  • Extend the gold mineralized intervals identified during the Company's phase one drilling on the Michelle Zone.
  • Confirm the presence of gold at the expansive Krista shear zone.
  • Understand the geologic controls of the gold bearing formations and develop a relationship between the IP results and the gold bearing sequences.
Highlights of the assay results are presented in the table below:

Drill Hole Zone From (m) To (m) Interval (m) Au (g/t)
RPX-10-16 Michelle 116.64 129.00 12.36 2.03

RPX-10-11 Krista 92.00 93.00 1.00 1.53

Phase one drilling on the Michelle zone included 4.05 g/t over 35 m (RPX10-02), 2.65 g/t over 40 m (RPX10-08), 2.31 g/t over 6 m, 3.26 g/t over 4 m, 2.84 g/t over 4.4 m and 1.12 g/t over 12 m as per the press release dated October 21, 2010. Drilling was also completed on the Krista Zone and the Michelle Zone Extension as follow-up to previously completed IP geophysical surveys and a trenching, hydro washing and chip sampling program. In total 2127.29 metres were drilled. All assay results are available at http://www.redpineexp.com/.

Michelle Zone

Drilling on the Michelle Zone has extended the gold bearing structure for an additional 30 metres easterly, and down plunge from previously reported hole RPX-10-02 (4.05g/t over 35m). To date, the company has traced gold mineralization on surface and by diamond drilling over a strike length greater than 200m in an east - west direction, and to a depth of more than 125 meters. The zone remains open in all directions and coincides with a geophysical IP anomaly extending for another 500 metres to the east and 150 metres to the west.

Gold values from hole RPX-10-18 (2.76 g/t over 2m) are from a deeper, mafic volcanic dominated environment similar to the mafic volcanic environments that host gold in the Timmins mining camp. More drilling will be required to define the orientation and extent of this gold enriched intersection.

Michelle Zone Extension

The Michelle Zone Extension is located approximately 600 metres south-east of the Michelle Zone. Exploration drilling at the Michelle Zone Extension targeting east-west trending IP geophysical responses encountered anomalous gold values from hole RPX-10-14 (0.70 g/t over 6.00 m) and RPX-10-15 (1.98 g/t over 0.18 m). An Abitibi Geophysics crew is presently performing down-hole IP surveys on holes RPX-10-14 and RPX-10-15 to better understand the controls of these anomalous gold values.

Krista Zone

Previous work by the Company, comprised of trenching, hydro washing, chip sampling and an IP survey defined a laterally extensive vein shear system hosted within feldspar porphyry and mafic volcanic protoliths. The system extends for more than 1 km in an east/west orientation. Geological surface mapping has identified at least one other parallel structure of similar characteristics indicating that the shear structure likely consists of a number of stacked contacts. Diamond drilling on the Krista zone was focused on a 350 m portion of this long structural corridor and has encountered anomalous gold values from holes RPX-10-09 (1.58 g/t over 6.88 m), RPX-10-10 (1.27 g/t over 9.00 m and 1.52 g/t over 4.74 m) and RPX-10-11 (1.53 g/t over 1.00 m). Assay results also support the existence of a second mineralized horizon parallel to the Krista Zone, confirming a stacked, or an echelon shear vein system that will require additional follow-up to define.

Re-sampling of Historic Drill Holes

  • Analytical confirmation of historical assays over the Michelle Zone with highlight of:
    • 52.40 m of 2.35 g/t gold including 17.0m of 5.45 g/t and 3.00 m of 5.07 g/t

Historic drilling in the Michelle Zone by Greenshield Resources Ltd. ("Greenshield") identified gold mineralization (January 16, 2003 GRE Press Release). To confirm the assay results obtained by Greenshield, Red Pine re-sampled 2002 diamond drill core in December, 2010. This program included the splitting and assaying of previously un-sampled diamond drill core. The assay results of this sampling program are presented in the table below, along with the historical Greenshield assays for comparison:

Three-dimensional modelling of the gold mineralization indicates this mineralized zone is open along strike, and the Company intends on targeting this during future exploration programs.

Geologic Interpretation

The Company believes the identification of the association of gold mineralization with quartz porphyry bodies and well developed shear systems, coupled with the identification of numerous similar lithologic and structural bodies throughout the Property through geophysical interpretation and ground-truthing, is very encouraging, and warrants an aggressive Property-scale exploration program.

The identified geologic controls require further clarification. To assist in identifying and prioritizing targets the Company has successfully retained Jean-Philippe Desrochers PhD., P.Geo. Jean-Philippe Desrochers holds a PhD in geology from University of Montreal and has over seventeen years experience in the mineral exploration industry in Canada, Central America and South America. Dr. Desrochers specializes in the field of structural geology applied to ore deposits in the search for Archean lode gold, volcanogenic massive sulfides, porphyry copper, skarn, and epithermal gold deposits.

About The SaraCourt Property

The SaraCourt Property is a regional land package of contiguous, high-potential gold properties totalling approximately 28,000 hectares of patented and unpatented mining lands. Located in and along the newly defined DZ3 Gold Deformation Corridor, the Property holds a series of deformation zones and regional fault branches that host abundant gold showings and join the Destor-Porcupine Deformation Zone to the northeast, and join to the western extension of the Larder Lake Deformation Zone fault that branches to the southwest. The Destor-Porcupine Fault Zone is spatially associated with gold deposits in the Timmins-Porcupine Gold Camp that have produced more than 65 million ounces gold to date.

On-site Quality Assurance/Quality Control Measures

All diamond drill (half core) samples were collected and sealed on site and shipped under chain of custody supervision to the ALS Minerals sample preparation laboratory in Timmins, Ontario. Analyses are performed by ALS Minerals Laboratories in Vancouver, BC. All core samples were selected by the Red Pine qualified site geologist, and were cut in half on site by diamond saw. For security, the remaining half core was then resealed in the original core boxes. Individual half core samples were labelled, placed in plastic sample bags and sealed. Groups of samples were placed into sealed and durable rice bags then shipped out by air transport. Remaining coarse reject portions of all samples remain in storage at the ALS Minerals preparation laboratory storage facility at Timmins.

Independent Quality Assurance and Quality Control Protocol

A QA/QC program has been implemented to monitor all assays from the current drilling program. Samples are assembled as batches and are continuously shipped from the site for immediate testing. Included in each batch of samples are certified reference standards (every 10 samples) and blank samples comprised of sterile drill core placed in at random locations (every 20-30 samples).
