Granite Hill Estates to Launch Art for Life Program

Exhibits Will Feature Artists From GHE and the Greater Hallowell Community

HALLOWELL, ME--(Marketwire - February 8, 2011) - Granite Hill Estates (GHE), the Kennebec Valley's premier continuing care retirement community, will begin a new program, Art for Life. Beginning this month, Art for Life will feature a series of two-month exhibits of artwork from artists who reside at Granite Hill, throughout the greater Hallowell/Augusta community, and beyond. At some point during each exhibit, a social hour will be combined with a Meet the Artist reception, an opportunity to meet and speak with the artists about their lives and their work. Refreshments will be served.

"Our intent is to showcase the diversity of art being created so close to home," said Kathy Jorgensen, GHE's Executive Director. "The richness of our lives here at Granite Hill and throughout the Hallowell area is reflected in the artwork being created by an amazing number of people. We look forward to showcasing that work, to exposing the talent it reflects, and to sharing the sense of community for which Granite Hill is known."

Art for Life will kick off on Thursday, February 24, at 4:00 p.m., in the lobby of the Maine Lodge. That date also will be the Meet the Artist reception for the first exhibitor, Ken Barnard. Ken, a Maine native and a retired architect, designed residences, summer camps, hospitals, and schools in remote places from Pembroke to Grand Isle. He started painting when he retired to Albuquerque, New Mexico. After living there for 15 years, he returned to Maine to be closer to his children and grandchildren. Ken resides at Granite Hill Estates with his wife, Mary.
