ActiveState Launches Perl Package Manager Index (PPM Index)

Free Access Available Immediately

VANCOUVER, BC--(Marketwire - February 9, 2011) - ActiveState, the dynamic language experts offering solutions for Perl, Python, and Tcl, has launched its Perl Package Manager Index (PPM Index) to give developers a more complete picture of Perl build information and package/module availability across multiple platforms. Using PPM Index, developers can immediately determine if the Perl modules they need are available for all the platforms they are deploying on, providing critical information to speed up the design phase of development. Developers now have direct access via the web to search PPM repositories (collections of ActivePerl modules).

Total modules on PPM Index number almost 15,000 Perl modules -- depending on your operating system -- and provide build version and OS-specific information, detailed documentation beyond just author documentation, data from ActiveState on nightly builds and which platforms the module runs on, plus module dependencies. Intuitive search allows developers to find Perl modules by name, summary, keywords, author or name.

"Good Perl development depends heavily on modules and the quality of those modules. Having a clear way to sort through the wide variety of modules of varying quality is an extremely valuable resource that we are pleased to provide," said Jeff Hobbs, Director of Engineering at ActiveState. "Our business is all about developers, whether they're independent or part of a larger enterprise. Developers need good tools to do the job well. Detailed documentation on build versions, supported platforms, and more is instantly useful."
