Statement by the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Passing of Bob Monks

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Feb. 9, 2011) -

It is with great sadness that I learned of the death of cartoonist and media personality Bob Monks.

A native of Michigan, Mr. Monks moved to Windsor in the 1950s. After an early career as a high school art teacher, his sense of humour and talent led him to a career as an editorial cartoonist at The Windsor Star and later as host of his own TV series, Bob Monks' Inside Outside. Despite his illness, he remained active in recent years and released a book of cartoons, Bob Monks History of Windsor, in the fall of 2010.

On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I offer my sincere condolences to the family and friends of Bob Monks.
