OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Feb. 18, 2011) - The Cricket World Cup, held every four years, is a much-anticipated event for cricket fans across our country and around the globe. Yesterday, the inaugural ceremony officially opened the six-week-long series of competitions.

As Minister of State (Sport) and on behalf of all Canadians, I would like to congratulate all the members of our Canadian cricket team on following their dreams and pursuing sport excellence to this landmark event. I am certain it will prove to be a valuable experience in international competition. We wish them luck in all their matches. I would also like to thank the organizers, officials, and volunteers who help ensure the success of the competitions.

The 2011 World Cup is being co-hosted by Bangladesh, India, and Sri Lanka. The opening ceremonies were held in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and featured well-known performers, which included Bryan Adams.
