Dr. Bryan Massoud to Teach Endoscopic Spine Surgery Workshop in Miramar, Fla, March 12

Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery Techniques Offer Alternatives to Spinal Fusion and Open Spine Surgery

UNION, NJ and MIRAMAR, FL--(Marketwire - February 18, 2011) - Bryan J. Massoud, M.D., a board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon with Spine Centers of America and NJ Back Institute will conduct a hands-on, interactive seminar and workshop to instruct surgeons on performing two minimally invasive endoscopic spine surgery procedures: Endoscopic Discectomy and Dorsal Ramus Rhizotomy. The workshop will take place on March 12, 2011, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., at SurgiCare of Miramar, Miramar, Florida. The event is sponsored by Richard Wolf Medical Instruments Corp.

"While some of the endoscopic techniques may be new, they are not considered experimental -- we're just using different instruments and an endoscopic approach to mimic techniques used during open surgery to achieve better results," Dr. Massoud stated. "These endoscopic surgical procedures preserve ligaments and the supporting structures of the spine. By using a small incision and minimizing the stripping of tissues and exposure of adjacent levels, endoscopic procedures reduce scarring and the risk of adjacent level disease and infection, and contribute to a more rapid, recovery."

The workshop will teach and instruct orthopedic surgeons advanced new minimally invasive spine surgery techniques to better serve their patients. Subject matter includes patho-anatomy and patho-physiology of degenerative disc disease and facet pain. Participants can expect a detailed overview of patient selection criteria, instruction on post-operative patient care and personalized training in anatomy, instrument utilization and intra-operative techniques. Dr. Massoud will also cover new surgical techniques for selective endoscopic discectomy and dorsal ramus rhizotomy, as well as anesthetic considerations, management and needle placement techniques. He will present current research relevant to the advancement of endoscopic spine procedures. Finally, participants will be given the opportunity for hands-on development of surgical skills in both procedures.
