CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Feb. 21, 2011) - The Biggar family of Calgary will be able to introduce their three-year-old twin daughters Keira and Kaley to family members from Newfoundland for the first time ever, thanks to Shaw's Amazing Family Reunion Contest.
The contest launched online at www.togetherisamazing.com on November 29, inviting Canadians to create a virtual scrapbook page sharing their story of why they wanted to reunite their family. More than 5,000 Canadians created family scrapbooks and shared their incredible stories. Ten deserving families were chosen by a panel of judges and will have the opportunity to create their dream family reunion valued up to $25,000.
Keira and Kaley, twins, were born to Vicki and Brodie Biggar in Calgary on March 10, 2008 – and immediately after birth, Kaley was diagnosed with Down syndrome and a severe heart defect. Kaley has since fought through 18 major surgeries and endured many complications. She spent the first two years of her life at the Alberta Children's Hospital, and was finally discharged in July 2010. The family celebrated their first Christmas at home in December, when Vicki entered Shaw's Amazing Family Reunion Contest.
"Keira and Kaley have many relatives in Newfoundland that have not yet been able to meet them. We haven't been able to travel due to Kaley's illness and are unsure at this point if we will ever have that opportunity," said Vicki. "Kaley will undergo more heart surgeries in the near future so to have this opportunity to meet the ones that love her will be a dream come true."
As one of the 10 winners of the Amazing Family Reunion, Vicki and Brodie will bring together her family from Newfoundland, and Brodie's from Camrose, Alberta, for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
