ATLANTA, GA--(Marketwire - March 2, 2011) - The 20th Annual King & Spalding Health Law and Policy Forum -- a one-day conference focusing on the latest legal and regulatory developments in the healthcare industry -- will be held on March 14, 2011, 8:15 a.m. - 5 p.m., at the Four Seasons Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia. This year's forum, which brings together the leading thinkers in health law, policy and business, will focus on the practical ramifications of healthcare reform for employers and health care providers, including accountable care organizations. The forum is sponsored by King & Spalding and will be moderated by Rick Shackelford, King & Spalding partner and president of the American Health Lawyers Association.
Keynote speaker U.S. Representative Tom Price, M.D., (R-GA) will offer his views on where Washington is likely headed on healthcare reform. Price is an orthopedic surgeon and an advocate for patient-centered healthcare reform and has proposed legislation on this subject, the Empowering Patients First Act.
Forum sessions include:

Murphy, Chris Wray and Shackelford will discuss personal liability for corporate violations, and the increased risk for participants in the healthcare industry resulting from the recent focus by the U.S. Department of Justice and other enforcement agencies on individual culpability.
John Distefano, the national leader for health care advisory services at Ernst & Young, and partners Patrick Morrisey and Ken Raskin of King & Spalding will discuss the provisions of the Accountable Care Act relevant to providers and employers that are slated to take effect between now and 2012, and will offer their perspectives on the possible direction of legislative changes.
George Whetsell, managing director of Huron Consulting Group, and partners Glen Reed and Joe Lynch of King & Spalding will discuss the development of Accountable Care Organizations, including emerging criteria for federally qualified ACOs, likely terms for Medicare ACO contracts, integration of providers into ACOs, and organizational strategies for ACO success.

Giovanis & Company, LLC, and partner Chris Keough of King & Spalding will address the proposed regulations issued by CMS in January for the implementation of hospital value-based purchasing in October 2012. They will explain the opportunities and challenges for hospitals presented by the financial incentives proposed by CMS.
Hector Calzada, director with Deloitte Financial Advisory Services, LLP, and King & Spalding partners Jay Harris, Paul Quiros and Bill Spalding will describe the current environment for healthcare company transactions, including joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions.
Jerry Chang, director of valuation services at Navigant Consulting, and Kim Mobley, a principal with Sullivan Cotter & Associates, will address the key valuation issues that arise in physician practice transactions. They will address both asset valuation and compensation issues.
King & Spalding partners Rob Keenan, Kim Roeder and Jeff Spigel will cover the regulatory impediments to implementation of the healthcare reform provisions of the Accountable Care Act, including potential regulatory conflicts under the antitrust and the fraud and abuse laws.
