Verizon Wireless Recognized as Call Quality Leader in the New York Metro Region in Latest J.D. Power and Associates Study

WARREN, NJ--(Marketwire - March 3, 2011) - Verizon Wireless ranked highest among all other national wireless providers in the New York Metro region, which includes Manhattan, Queens, the Bronx, Brooklyn, Long Island, Staten Island, Rockland County, and Northern New Jersey, in the J.D. Power and Associates 2011 Wireless Call Quality Performance Study(SM), Volume 1, issued today. This is the 13th consecutive time Verizon Wireless was ranked highest in the Northeast Region.

More than 27,250 wireless phone subscribers were surveyed by J.D. Power and Associates between July and December 2010 about their experiences with dropped calls, static/interference, failed connection on the first try, voice distortion, echoes, no immediate voice mail notification, and no immediate text message notification. Based on their responses, Verizon Wireless ranked highest in five regions, including the New York Metro region.

"People are increasingly relying on their smartphones, tablets and other wireless devices to stay connected to the world around them," said Pat Devlin, New York Metro region president for Verizon Wireless. "A device is only as strong as the network it runs on, and our customers know they can count on Verizon Wireless. Our ongoing investments and dedication to New York, Northern New Jersey, and throughout the United States have kept us ahead of this increasing wireless demand and have enabled our customers to get the coverage they want and need on the nation's most reliable wireless network."

Verizon Wireless operates America's largest and most reliable voice and 3G data network*. Each year, Verizon Wireless invests billions of dollars in its network to stay ahead of the growing demand for the company's voice and data services. Verizon Wireless' ongoing network investment now totals more than $3 billion in the New York Metro region and more than $65 billion nationally over the past ten years.

In December 2010, Verizon Wireless debuted its new 4G LTE network in Manhattan, and 37 other major metropolitan areas, covering more than 110 million Americans. Verizon Wireless' 4G LTE network is the fastest, most advanced 4G network in the United States. The company has committed to launch 140 additional 4G LTE markets during 2011, covering two-thirds of all Americans by the end of this year.
