Pratt & Whitney Canada's PT6Nation Comes to Heli-Expo 2011 Creates Online Community Connecting PT6 Customers and Fans

HELI-EXPO, ORLANDO, FLORIDA--(Marketwire - March 6, 2011) - Pratt & Whitney Canada's (P&WC's) award-winning social network microsite PT6Nation.com has come to Heli-Expo 2011. A special PT6Nation kiosk is featured in the P&WC booth (421) at Heli-Expo where attendees can take a tour of the PT6Nation microsite and sign up to become members. The PT6Nation microsite was launched three months ago to leverage evolving social business networks and bring P&WC brand awareness to potential customers and industry partners. Pratt & Whitney Canada is a United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX) company.

Though only three months old, PT6Nation has already won an award. In February, it won first place for "Best Use of Social Media" in the Flight Global "Webbie" awards competition. According to the competition's judges, PT6Nation is the first such OEM-run social network, stepping outside the boundaries of the established networks such as Facebook and Twitter but harnessing their integration. Judges said that P&WC had developed a B2C tool to connect with its customer base in an open, digital medium.

"We constantly strive to be close to our customers and attentive to their needs, and PT6Nation complements P&WC's global customer service vision," said Raffaele Virgili, Vice President, Customer Service, P&WC. "Using this new tool, we can promote our vision of customer service, strengthen our customer focus and further cultivate our relationships around the world."

Helicopter enthusiasts who are also fans of the iconic PT6 family of engines can meet at PT6Nation to share stories and keep up to date on developments. Since launching December 1, 2010, PT6Nation has:

  • More than 7,506 unique visitors

  • More than 34,986 page views (on 8,420 site visits)

  • More than 535 registered citizens

  • More than 708 Twitter followers

  • More than 346 Facebook fans

The first PT6 engine model was launched 47 years ago as Canada's first small gas turbine engine and has continued to evolve with customer needs and through the application of innovative technology. Known around the world for its reliability and durability, the PT6 has captured more than 130 applications for helicopters and business, commuter, utility and trainer aircraft. With more than 46,000 engines delivered, and more than 350 million hours flown, the PT6 is the world's most popular engine in its class.

P&WC and the helicopter industry

Since the 1970s, P&WC has produced more than 12,000 engines for the helicopter market, accumulating more than 43 million flying hours. The company has certified 31 models for more than 25 applications and engines destined for the helicopter industry.
