Aberdeen Group Research Indicates Lost or Stolen Tablets Can Pose a $490,000 Risk

Enterprise Mobility Management of Smartphones and Tablets Is Becoming a Core IT Responsibility

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwire - March 8, 2011) - Aberdeen Group, a Harte-Hanks Company (NYSE: HHS), today announced the publication of its latest research study on the state of the enterprise mobility market, "Enterprise Mobility Management 2011: Mobility Becomes Core IT." The study found that enterprise mobility has matured past the point of early market penetration and the prototypical early adopters, with top-performing organizations prioritizing the management and security of their mobile infrastructure as IT key objectives for 2011, resulting in the consolidation their mobile operations under IT management. Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM), the comprehensive 'cradle-to-grave' approach of managing the full mobile lifecycle, has become a hallmark of these top performing organizations. Aberdeen surveyed over 250 organizations during January and February 2011 as the basis for this study.

"As masters of their mobile universe, top-performing organizations use Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) to take control of their mobile ecosystem as if their business depends upon it," said Andrew Borg, senior research analyst, Aberdeen. "The time has come to consolidate all mobility initiatives under the watchful and process-oriented eye of central IT. Mobility is no longer peripheral -- it's core IT now."

The study also documented the business-critical importance of securing the enterprise mobile infrastructure. The study found that lost or stolen smartphones or tablets can expose the organization to a regulation or compliance lapse risk of from $10,000 to $491,000 USD per incident.

"The Russian Roulette of 'hoping' that mobile devices that carry sensitive corporate data will never be lost or stolen falls seriously short," said Borg. "Instead, a comprehensive EMM solution that includes remote device management with lock-and-wipe capabilities is needed. Why take chances when the stakes are so high?"
