Violin Memory Wins Two 2011 Telecom Council SPIFFY Awards

Flash-Forward Company Takes Home the Ground Breaker Award for Engineering Excellence and the People's Choice Award for the Most Exciting Telecom Technology

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA--(Marketwire - March 9, 2011) - Violin Memory, Inc., provider of the world's fastest and most scalable Memory Arrays, today announced that the company won two of the Telecom Council's annual SPIFFY Awards including Engineering Excellence and People's Choice. Violin's flash-forward Memory Arrays were recognized by over 25 leading carrier members and the industry for being the "most impressive technological advancement" and for technology that most "excited the telecom community."

"We reviewed over 100 startups and it's rare that companies win more than one SPIFFY award a year," said Liz Keaton, president of the Telecom Council. "The fact that Violin was nominated for three awards and won two signifies that the company is making groundbreaking contributions to the telecom industry."

Violin's Memory's 3200 Flash Memory Array is designed to address the growing scalability and infrastructure demands of some of the world's largest telecom providers. The 3200 provides ten times the performance of hard disk drives (HDD) with one-tenth the footprint in space and power, allowing telecom companies to increase performance while downsizing the datacenter. With the 3200, telecoms can rapidly scale and deliver real-time, on-demand mobile data and services to customers, especially as they move toward cloud services.

"The SPIFFY awards are a huge win for us," said Dixon Doll, Jr., COO of Violin Memory. "Violin realized the scalability, performance and infrastructure demands of the telecom industry and found a way to alleviate those issues. We met with many telecom companies during Mobile World Congress this year and they were thrilled that there is finally a storage solution that can help ease their transition to the Cloud and accommodate the data demands of 4G networks."

In addition to these two SPIFFY wins, Violin Memory was recently named one of Storage Newsletter's "15 Most Promising Startups," a "Top 10 Data Storage Startup" by Enterprise Storage Forum and a finalist for SearchStorage.com's Product of the Year.
