e.Republic's GOVERNING Magazine Takes First at Neal Awards

SACRAMENTO, CA--(Marketwire - March 10, 2011) - Today, e.Republic's GOVERNING magazine took first place at the 57th Annual Jesse H. Neal National Business Journalism Awards competition, winning in the "Best Single Article" category for its class. The awards, considered "the Pulitzer Prize of the business media" are one of the industry's most prestigious editorial honors, recognizing editorial excellence in business media publications.

The winning article, "Doing Less With Less," in GOVERNING's September 2010 issue, was written by Zach Patton, Senior Editor at GOVERNING and photographed by David Kidd, GOVERNING's Design Director and photographer.

Patton conceived of the idea, reporting on it from Colorado Springs where the story takes place. He said, "This article, about the drastic service cuts one city was forced to make in the wake of the economic downturn, is an example of what GOVERNING always strives to do -- tell the story of state and local government in a way that resonates with our readers." Kidd also spent time in Colorado Springs, photographing the people and places in the story and designing the article for the magazine.

"Winning the Jesse Neal Award for best single article is a proud moment for everyone who works at GOVERNING, especially for Zach and David," said GOVERNING Editor Tod Newcombe. "A lot of hard work and talent lies behind the features we produce and this award reflects the entire staff's overall excellence in journalism."
