OSSTF/FEESO Delegates Elect New Leaders


TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 14, 2011) - Delegates of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation (OSSTF/FEESO) gathered at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel for the annual OSSTF/FEESO meeting. The agenda included the election of new leaders to represent the 60,000-member educational union.

Amongst the elected were Ken Coran, President; Harvey Bischof, Vice President; Paul Elliott, Vice President; Earl Burt, Treasurer; Cindy Dubué, Executive Officer; Scott Marshall, Executive Officer; and Leslie Wolfe, Executive Officer.

Ken Coran, a science teacher from West Lorne, Ontario and former local Teacher bargaining unit president in OSSTF/FEESO District 11, Thames Valley, was acclaimed as the provincial President of OSSTF/FEESO. He was first elected to the provincial Executive as Executive Officer in 2001, as Vice President in 2003 and as President in 2007.

Harvey Bischof, an English teacher with the Durham Region School Board, was elected to the provincial Executive as Vice President. He was first elected to the provincial executive as Executive Officer in 2007. Locally, he has served as the Teacher bargaining unit and district president of the OSSTF/FEESO in District 13, Durham.

Paul Elliott, a teacher from Fort Frances High School, was first elected to the provincial Executive as Executive Officer in 2005, as Vice President in 2007 and 2009. As a result of this year's election, Elliott will serve as Vice President until 2013.

Cindy Dubué, an Educational Assistant from Ottawa-Carleton, Dubué was elected as provincial Executive Officer on March 13, 2011. Previously Dubué has held many important roles in the Federation including District 25, Ottawa-Carleton President and Chair of Provincial Council. Currently Dubué is the Educational Assistants bargaining unit and district president in OSSTF/FEESO District 25, Ottawa-Carleton.

Scott Marshall, taught Physical Education and worked as a Special Education teacher with the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board. He was elected as the local OSSTF/FEESO Teacher bargaining unit and district president in 2004. He was first elected to the provincial Executive as Executive Officer in 2009 and as a result of this year's election, Marshall will serve another term until 2013 as Executive Assistant.

Leslie Wolfe, taught ESL, Co-op, and students in the at-risk programs at the Yorkdale Adult Learning Centre and Georges Vanier Secondary School. Wolfe was elected as provincial Executive Officer on March 13, 2011. Most recently she served as the Chief Negotiator for the District 12, Toronto Secondary Teachers' Bargaining Unit.

The new leaders were elected for a two-year term and will commence their duties as members of OSSTF/FEESO's provincial Executive on July 1, 2011.

OSSTF/FEESO, founded in 1919, has 60,000 members across Ontario. They include public high school teachers, occasional teachers, educational assistants, continuing education teachers and instructors, early childhood educators, psychologists, secretaries, speech-language pathologists, social workers, plant support personnel, university support staff, and many others in education.
